Winter's Passage by Julie Kagawa

Meghan Chase used to be an ordinary girl...until she discovered that she is really a faery princess. After escaping from the clutches of the deadly Iron fey, Meghan must follow through on her promise to return to the equally dangerous Winter Court with her forbidden love, Prince Ash. But first, Meghan has one request: that they visit Puck--Meghan's best friend and servant of her father, King Oberon--who was gravely injured defending Meghan from the Iron Fey.
Yet Meghan and Ash's detour does not go unnoticed. They have caught the attention of an ancient, powerful hunter--a foe that even Ash may not be able to defeat....

This is the first of Julie Kagawa’s books that I have read so I think that the story was a little wasted on me as I am not entirely sure about the circumstances that led to Meghan and Ash meeting, Puck ending up in a tree or just who the talking cat is.

But, that aside, I enjoyed this. I am liking the obviously darker take on fairies that has been adopted in this book, also with their world and our world being side by side but not knowing it.

Like I said, I can’t really say an awful lot about this book. I don’t know what the backstory is. Only that Ash and Meghan made a deal, and that deal was for Ash’s help in saving her brother Meghan would return to the winter court with him.

And that’s about all I know.

From what I read of Ash in this book I am not sure if I like him or not. I understand that there are reasons behind his mood swings but since I do not know him well enough I can’t say wither or not I could look past them. Right now I am leaning more towards not liking him…but that may change once I have actually read a book.

So, reading this has reminded me why I really REALLY don’t like coming into a book series halfway through and try to start from the beginning. But, it has also given me a quick glimpse into a world I would love to read more about.
