Monday Catch-Up #2

I was going to be so good and not buy anything but then I ended up in town...and well...it kind of spiralled from there. But 3 books for £5 how can anyone say no to that?

Anyway, before I go into what I bought, here is what I read (just to make myself feel better :)).
I love the Ouran High School Host Club anime series so I thought I would give the manga a chance. So far the anime is my favourite of the 2. The Crooked House was brilliant! Plain Jane was a nice romantic read and I am so glad to have finally got round to reading the Lord of the Rings. :)
And now onto the new pretties.
In my defence I have had my eye on the Thursday Next books for aaaaages and then when I saw them in the Works I couldn't say no :) Stardust was recommended to me by a friend so I thought I would give it a shot and New Girl and Iron Traitor were 2 'lets-give-them-a-shot' choices.
Happy reading everyone! :)

Monday Catch-Up

Hi guys. I am still being a bit rubbish with the whole, posting regularly thing so I thought I would aim for once a week for a little while and just do a little post on what I have read/bought/will be reading. Hopefully once I get back into the swing of things I'll post more. So last week I went on a wee bit of a shopping spree (just a little one *whistles innocently) I have been wanting to read the Alice in Zombieland books for a while and pretty much pounced on them when I saw them in the Works (that's a UK bargain book shop for non UK peeps :)) And now onto the books I read. I started the Bloody Chamber the night I bought it. Weird book. It is a collection of fairytale inspired short stories and although I have been wanting to read it for AGES and was super excited to finally get my hands on it I was pretty disappointed. Not my cup of tea at all. I listened to the House at Pooh Corner and it made for a nice change. I loved Winnie the Pooh when I was younger but I had never read he original stories. It was nice to get a taste of them. And then there is the Klone and I. Umm...I really don't know what to say about this one... If you aren't looking for much in a book I would suggest it but otherwise...no. That's that then. Right now I am reading Crooked House by Agatha Christie - really enjoying it so far! :) Post Signature

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie - Review

Death on the NileDeath on the Nile by Agatha Christie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This wasn't one of my favourite TV adaptations but I am glad I gave the book a chance. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would.

Thumbs Up
The beginning and the end.
Of course there was great stuff in between but I loved how the book came full circle. We start of with two characters (who we never see again until the end) talking about the heiress who had bought the local big house. We pick up with them again once all of the drama is over, and murders have been committed and after a few comments on what they have read in the papers, life goes on. I really liked that.
I really enjoyed the introductions to the rest of the characters and how we get to learn the basics of why they are going to Egypt. It was fun to pick up on each of them when we see them again.

Thumbs Down
Some of the characters seemed a bit too...much (?). Very melodramatic and over the top. It grated on me a little bit.
I hate to say this but Poirot irritated me, he came across as quite pompous.

All in All
A fun read were the things that annoyed me didn't annoy me enough to put down the book.

The 'Let's-Cut-Down-On-The-Books' Plan or How Alex is Going to stop Drowning in Books

I have a ridiculous amount of books. No really, it is getting a little bit beyond the joke…

So, a few weeks ago I had a bit of a clear out – needless to say I didn’t have the heart to throw out any books – and it got me thinking. I am drowning in books. I have nearly five book cases full – true, they aren’t HUGE book cases, but then I also have two boxes in my wardrobe (filled with books) that, although I don’t read them I don’t want to give up and another two (and a half) flat boxes (they are about big enough to fit a book spine-up-ways in) under my bed. That doesn’t count the un-boxed ‘floaters’ and collections I have in the wardrobe running wild.

See what I mean?

NUTS!

So I have come up with a plan.

This is my mission for 2014.

See this shelf –

This is a shelf of all the books (paper books) I have read so far in 2014.

The plan is, every time the shelf gets filled that is the time to go through the books on it and do I little culling.

That will be the time when I decided keep, sell or second hand shop.

I am hoping that by doing it this way the tax won’t seem quit as daunting as it would do if I put the straight back on the shelf with the rest of the books.

In a way this is starting from scrath, so all of my books as coming to this with a clean slate… Yip! It may take a while to get the collection down but I think I am equal to the task.

Wish me luck! :)
